in JesusÕ teaching and actions: Ordinary people, medical

One purpose of JesusÕ baptism was that Jesus might identify

fully with man, how did 4:1-13 fulfill the same purpose?

In all 3 temptations, Satan tempted Jesus to grasp by his own

power what the Father planned to give in His own time.

Are you tempted to grasp at anything that God would give by

grace in His own time? Or, are you facing some other

temptation? Ask God to show you one particular area of

temptation, & then describe it?

What equipment did Jesus use to defend Himself? (4:1,4,8,12)?

Did the Son of God use any weapons that are unavailable to

us? What are the implications of this fact for us?

Wednesday:

Between JesusÕ temptation (4:13) & His return home were

months of teaching & healing in other areas. Now we see Jesus

returning to His hometown, where stories of His teaching &

healing have preceded Him. When He arrives, the town is

expecting Òthe son of JosephÓ instead they get the Son of God.

Pay careful attention to what happens when the townÕs

expectations meet GodÕs reality.

In what way is the scripture fulfilled (4:18-21) that day?

Jesus deliberately reminded the Nazarenes that He had been

healing other people & that God had frequently blessed the

scorned & hated Gentiles. What did He want them Ð and us Ð to

understand about God & His Kingdom?

How would you describe JesusÕ character from 4:14 Ð 30?

Compare JesusÕ word of preaching in Luke 4:18-21 to His word

of power in 4:31 Ð 41. How were teaching and action related?

According to Luke 11:20, what does Jesus power over demons

mean?

Thursday:

According to 5:20, why did Jesus declare the paralyticÕs sins

forgiven? Jesus had a second reason for forgiving and healing.

What did His deeds prove, and how did they prove it (5:21-26)?

In 5:14 Jesus told the man to follow the requirements for

certifying the healing. What testimony would this bear to the

priests & the nation?

What must the Pharisees believed (about God, sin,

righteousness) that made them consider it wrong to eat with

sinners?

What do JesusÕ words to the Pharisees reveal about His

mission?

How would you summarize what 5:1 Ð 32 contributes to the

message of the gospel?

Friday:

Chapter 6 involves flipping the worlds values & standards

completely upside down.

In general what is JesusÕ rule for life? (6:27-36)?

From this passage, explain what you think it means to love your

enemies. (What is love? Who are your enemies?)

With the warnings of 6:37 Ð 42 in mind, how can we recognize

the state of our hearts (6:43 Ð 45)?
